About the Role

Job Summary


The Bookkeeper and Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, and supporting the company’s accounting and budgeting processes. This role involves handling day-to-day bookkeeping tasks, managing accounts payable and receivable, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations and company policies.


Key Responsibilities


- Record and maintain accurate financial transactions in accounting systems.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely payments and collections.
- Prepare and process invoices, expense reports, and payroll entries.
- Reconcile bank statements, credit card accounts, and general ledger accounts monthly.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements, budgets, and forecasts.
- Maintain organized and up-to-date financial documentation and filing systems.
- Prepare and file tax returns, GST/HST, payroll remittances, and other statutory reports.
- Support the external audit process by providing required documentation and explanations.
- Monitor cash flow and report on financial performance and variances.
- Advise management on financial decisions, cost-saving opportunities, and compliance issues.

Requirements

Qualifications and Skills


  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

  • Minimum 2–3 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience (public or private sector).

  • Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, or Sage.

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP/IFRS).

  • Excellent Excel and data management skills.

  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational ability.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.


Preferred Assets


  • Professional designation or in progress (CPA, CMA, or equivalent).

  • Experience in [insert industry, e.g., energy, construction, or non-profit].

  • Familiarity with financial reporting standards and audit preparation.
